Lord help me to finish what I start

But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore, putting away lying, “ Let each one of  you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another. “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil. Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 4:20‭-‬‬32 (NKJV)

For a long time I thought I was the only one who dealt with inconsistency, as I find myself talking to others and listening to their struggles it confirmed that I'm not alone.

This has been a prayer that I have prayed constantly...

"Lord grant me the grace to do the things that I know I ought to be doing now, help me to choose to do what is right and not convient. Please forgive me for being slothful. Please forgive me for procrastination. As I humble myself under Your mighty hand please give me the grace to do better in Jesus name I pray, Amen."

Now I know this is similar to the prayer you've prayed especially if you are tired of failing at this, but I will be the first to tell you...

Even though this prayer sounded good, there were still somethings I was missing.

As we see in the first set of scriptures in the text above, Apostle Paul tells us, " But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus; that you PUT OFF CONCERNING YOUR FORMER CONDUCT, THE OLD MAN WHICH GROWS CORRUPT ACCORDING TO THE DECEITFUL LUSTS, AND BE RENEWED IN THE SPIRIT OF YOUR MIND."

The problem is, our minds have not been renewed and we're trying to make that old man or that
old mindset do something it wasn't created to do and that's SUBMIT.

In order for us to defeat inconsistency, we have to put off what we have been used to doing and replace it with something new and constructive. Inconsistency comes to rob us of our true potential. It will rob us of the very destiny God has in store for us if we don't see it for what it really is.

Here are a few things I had to do to help me defeat the power of inconsistency in my life.

1. I had to repent for being slothful in the things I needed to do.
2. I wrote down my instructions for the day and set a reminder on my calendar to help keep me on track.
3. No matter how I felt I pressed my way to meet the goal that was set for me in that day.
4. I asked God for strength CONSISTENTLY!

It's not easy to undo a bad habit, especially when you've done it most of your life, but to undo bad habits you have to replace them with good ones.

Note: the things that are listed above I have to practice DAILY! Is it a struggle? Yes, but I'm determined to fulfill all that God has in store for me. I have to take it one day at a time, and so do you. As you go through your process be sure to put God first, walk in integrity with yourself, and others; then you will find that it gets easier.

I pray this helps you! Remember we are all in this together!

God bless you all
